By default, ragdolls in most games will bonelessly flop to the ground. Newer games and especially AAA developers have been putting in motored joints to alleviate this, or sometimes blending from an animation, or to one using motors.

With some simple motor forces it’s possible to get a stiffer ragdoll that resists being tossed around or pushed over, and naturally falls in a flatter state that’s easier to recover from for stand up animations.
